Cambrai is a commune in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region in the north of France. It was an important city of the former Southern Netherlands. It has a long history of battles, weaving and was a music epicentre during the 15th century. The local cathedral was a musical centre until the 17th century and helped produced some of the country’s best musicians. Guillaume Dufay, probably the most famous musician in Europe in the 15th century, learned his craft at the cathedral from 1409-1412.
Despite the fact that many of Cambrai's buildings have been destroyed throughout its history, as a religious epicentre, the town's two most impressive sights are churches. Notre-Dame de Grace is an ornate Baroque cathedral situated in the heart of the city and the Saint Géry Church dates back to Roman times. This is a town full of architectural treasures and rich in history and culture.
