Chambery is a picturesque city nestled neatly between the French Alps in the department of Savoie in the Rhône-Alpes region
It is the capital of Savoie and has been the capital of the historical Savoy region since the 13th century. Chambery is an historical city with impressive buildings and elaborate fortifications. These days the Château of the Dukes of Savoie, which was once home to royalty, is now open to the public for visits and tours.
Chambery was originally called Lemencum but changed its name several times during the middle ages and only became Chamberi in 1603. It is a beautiful city adorned with elaborate architecture and impressive monuments. Visitors of all ages will marvel at the splendour of the castle and the quirky elephant fountain.
