Run down place and uninterested staff

In general, I do appreciate this chain for the price / quality they offer. I understand that this is a budget chain and my expectations are aligned with this price level. However, I have never been to such a run down premiere classe hotel before.
The outdoor reservation terminal did not recognise our reservation. The manager took forever to check us in and was not very friendly in the process.
The magnetic door key did not work for 50% of the time and the door did not close properly. No towels were to be found in the room, apparently the maid had forgotten them. The A/C did only blow warm air (even if set to the lowest possible temperature), the room was thus too warm to be confortable. The floor was marked by many cigarette burns and the bed cover had several holes. Fortunately the sheets were clean.
Our room, n°26 was close to the motorway and very noisy.
The breakfast buffet was as usual of good quality.

As budget hotels go, this is about as basic as they get - bed(s), a tiny desk and TV, and a pod with the bathroom in it.

Road noise is significant (as might be expected given the location) but the paper-thin walls and motel-style open access to the exterior meant that I could hear all of the comings and goings of people noisily arriving as I lay in bed trying to sleep. Even 10 hours driving to get here wasn't enough to knock me out.

Next time I drive to the Alps I'll skip the overnight stop in Chambery - or at least skip this Troisieme Classe motel.

We stopped overnight on a family ski trip. The usual you would expect from premiere classe. The bed configuration was slightly different with twin beds and a bunk which was not as convenient as the double with a twin over. We had a meal at the Campanile next door which was perfectly fine.

One of the older buildings in this chain, I suspect, very dark and dingy room with awful lighting; a single vertical fluorescent tube in the corner, the broken shade so old it was dark brown, and probably a safety hazard. Linoleum floor, so could be kept fairly clean (better than the filthy carpet encountered in the Reims Premiere Classe we stayed at the night before!). Old-style bathroom, too, all-in-one bilious pink plastic cubicle with loo and shower, so the floor got soaking wet everywhere. As an indication of just how old this bathroom was, it still had built-in ashtrays! And an awful musty smell pervaded everywhere. There was an air-conditioner – but it didn't work! The security catch on the single window was broken, so if you opened the window at all, it was wide open from the outside walkway (the only access to all the rooms), and to possible intruders. Doesn't anyone inspect these rooms? Internet dire – worse than the old dial-up, and not useable. Where do these companies get their internet from, I wonder? Breakfast fairly basic – two sorts of cereal, bread, soft rolls and a sort of dry cake, no croissants! Juice, coffee and tea, of course, and a few yogurts.
It’s been quite a while since I last stayed at a Premiere Classe hotel, and from my experience this year, it will never happen again.
Avoid, there are better places at the same cost - try the Brit Hotel instead!

Hotel is tired and really needs a bit of TLC. Rooms are dark and noise can be heard from adjacent rooms. However for a 1 night stop over it was fine but I would not want to stay longer. The staff however were very pleasant and eager to assist and even helped me secure a dinner reservation nearby.
